Bangkok Post – Uthai Thani dominate Trat at home, improve chances of T1 survival

Uthai Thani put on an impressive show to defeat Trat 3-1 at home on Friday night and improve their chances of survival in Thai League 1.

The hosts carried their tally to 32 points that pushed them up to ninth spot in the table. Trat remained in 15th place with 25 points.

Both teams entered the match needing a win to improve their chances of survival in the top flight and it was Uthai Thani who rose to the challenge.

Sumanya Purisay opened the ball for Brinner Henrique to head it home in the 10th minute to give Uthai Thani a good start.

The hosts continued to control the game and got their second goal after 29 minutes through Ricardo Santos.

Trat showed improvement after the break and were rewarded with a goal on 52 minutes when Lidor Cohen struck home.

The hosts regained control three minutes later when Sumanya had his second assist of the match, setting up William Weidersjo for a header.

Trat tried to stage a late comeback but wasted several chances.

After the match, Uthai Thani coach Jakkapan Punpee said: “During the first half, we played very well. Sumanya was excellent and we got two of our goals because of him.

“I am hoping that this win will help us survive in the top league, but we will have to prepare hard for our remaining three games.”

‘United We Play’

Apollo Tyres and English Premier League giants Manchester United staged the Thai leg of their ‘United We Play 2024’ campaign in Bangkok on Saturday with 200 young players participating.

The initiative provides young players an opportunity to showcase their talents and earn a trip a the famed Manchester United academy in England.

Asean business head of Apollo Tyres (Thailand) Manish Maharaj said on Saturday that the aim of the project was to help talented young players avail world-class training facilities at Manchester United.

The three winners of Saturday’s event will have the opportunity to visit Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium and also participate in training at its academy.
